Bottled Carbon Dioxide Emitter Systems

Bottled carbon dioxide (CO2) emitter systems provide the hobby grower with the benefits of enhanced plant growth that has been realized by larger commercial operations for years. Providing bottled CO2 is more costly per cubic foot of CO2 produced than utilizing generators, therefore it is very important to use equipment that is designed to be exacting in its release of CO2 in relationship to the size and requirements of the growing enclosure.

Please note the time charge graphs we have included below. These guides will save you hundreds of dollars in wasted CO2. For those who wish to be very exacting with their atmospheric concentrations of CO2, Green Air Products offers an infrared CO2 monitor controller. This device will add CO2 only when required and keep the level at your predetermined enrichment value throughout the daylight period.

If you prefer to time your bottled CO2 output, the CST-1, CST-1S or CST-1SP cycle timers offer metering as low as 5 sec of "ON" time and 7 minutes of "OFF" time. These cycle timers have the ability to automatically reset to the beginning of a cycle immediately after venting triggered by a thermostat, humidity controller or timer. Green Air Products CO2 emitters are capable of discharging high flow rates of CO2 to quickly and accurately replenish atmospheric enrichment to optimum values.

When growing plants require supplemental CO2, they need it immediately, adequate and constant. The latest research shows that it is a waste of time to trickle it in via laser drilled tubing. In most cases, you will never achieve an optimum CO2 level and the plants metabolism will be retarded as a result. This is exactly why Green Air Products' carbon dioxide emitters allow you to inject abundant CO2 levels into your enclosure quickly and efficiently. For proper dispersal, CO2 from the emitter should be directed into a circulation fan and distributed evenly into the air mix throughout the room.

Select the CO2 flow rate and minutes of operation that will give you the proper ppm level of Co2 for your growing area. Next, find the value that corresponds to these two settings in the Carbon Dioxide Tank Cycles Chart and multiply that number by your tank size.

Example: From the Carbon Dioxide Flow Chart for Emitter Systems you determine that you need 15 cubic feet per hour of CO2 at 6 minutes of "on" time per hour. From the chart above the cross reference for these settings is a factor of 5.83. To determine the maximum number of cycles your tank will accommodate, multiply your tank weight* by 5.83. If you have a compact 20lb tank the total number of cycles possible from a full tank would be 117 (20 x 5.83). By contrast, if you are using the larger 50 pound tank, your total number of cycles would be 292 (50 X 5.83).

*Tank weight refers to the actual weight of liquid Co2 in the cylinder and not the weight of the empty tank. A standard 20lb tank therefore, has 20 pounds of liquid CO2 in the cylinder. Some standard tank sizes are 10, 20, 35 and 50 pounds. Even if you do not have a standard size tank, this method will work to determine the maximum number of cycles possible.
