As an example, in the hobby greenhouse, we would like to control the atmospheric conditions via thermostatically controlled exhaust ventilation 24 hours a day, but only want to enrich the air with carbon dioxide during the daylight hours. However, when exhaust fans are operating, injecting C02 into the atmosphere is pointless, since it will be immediately drawn out through the exhaust vents. The most common use for the IR-1 is to provide alternate switching for temperature or humidity controllers that do not already allow for carbon dioxide defeat during ventilation. The IR-2 plays an important role in the assembly and coordination of a total environmental control system. The IR-2 provides the switching function to isolate two separate equipment controllers. The relay lets you function a single device with two independent controls and eliminates the possibility of power feedback.
Plug the IR-2 control pigtails into each of the controllers you want to use to regulate your equipment. The center power pigtail operates the left outlet which is defeated when the control outlet is activated. Plug it into a timer or other control device or directly into wall receptacle. |

| Ventilation characteristics vary during the year as seasons bring changes in temperature and humidity. During warm weather the thermostat and/or humidistat controller usually provides frequent enough air exchanges to maintain good air quality. In cooler weather this may not be the case and enclosed atmospheres could become stale or otherwise undesirable. A timed periodic exhaust cycle would insure ventilation regardless of atmospheric conditions. To have a synchronized system which provides both types of control automatically and simultaneously would be optimum. The timed sequence would maintain ventilation during normal conditions and the temperature and humidity sensors would intercede during extreme conditions. The IR-2 will coordinate these two control devices as well as override CO2 equipment during ventilation periods. |

The IR-2 can be applied to numerous switching scenarios using almost any combination of controllers and equipment functions. In this example we want to operate an exhaust fan with both a timer and atmospheric controller.
The CST-1 timer will function the exhaust fan according to the times set and the atmospheric controller will operate the exhaust fan depending on temperature or humidity conditions. Controllers may be plugged directly into wall outlets or into clock timers to limit functions to desired hours. |

| CO2 equipment and controls could be operated by the left power outlet of the IR-2 which would be defeated during exhaust cycles. In the above example the timer would provide exhaust fan functions for air exchange periodically regardless of environmental conditions and the atmospheric controller would provide ventilation in the event of undesirable temperature or humidity levels. |

The example above demonstrates an irrigation scenario where as watering or misting can be regulated not only by timing but by temperature and humidity conditions as well. Irrigation would occur on a timed schedule routinely or if temperature exceeds setpoints or humidity drops below your desired level. The center power cord would not be needed in this operation.
