Hydroponic Growing Media

Crop CirclesTM
Premium Quality
Expanding Coir Fiber
Coco Peat Substrate
An organic potting medium made from natural coconut fibers, this medium is ideal for hydroponic and mixed media cultivation. Each Crop CirclesTM Premium Quality Coir Fiber Coco Peat disk expands to about five times its compressed size, from approximately 47.5 cubic inches dry, to approximately 237.5 cubic inches properly expanded, enough to fill four (4) six-inch pots.

Crop Circles
TM Coco loosens clay soils and is highly porous to aid in strong root development. It has a soft fibrous texture that does not crust when dry. pH ranges between 5.0 and 6.5, making it ideal as a soil amendment. Crop CirclesTM are free from weed seeds or diseases, and can be used as a peat moss replacement in potting mixes or alone as a potting medium.

Crop Circles
TM Coir Fiber Coco Peat disks are a shredded form of coco, as opposed to the coffee ground consistancy of competitive products, which results in a much higher air to water ratio, extremely important for healthy root development. As a result, Crop CirclesTM promote stronger root systems with better nutrient absorption resulting in excellent growth and plant formation.

Crop Circles
TM are entirely organic and manufactured from renewable resources. Washed of unwanted salts and pH balanced so you can begin fertilization immediately. The fibrous material settles faster after planting, absorbs water easily at all times and has optimal drainage characteristics so the medium always stays extremely airy. It's structure holds up throughout cultivation, with minimal settling.

HigroMite Growing Media

HigroMite Growing Media
HigroMite
Growing Media
Higromite is the only growing medium of its kind in the world. Higromite is mined from volcanic deposits colonized by protozoa in freshwater lakes millions of years ago. These deposits produced the best natural balance of organic, major, and trace elements.

Higromite provides several advantages over expanded clay pebbles, coco, and rock wool. It's high in silica, pH neutral, and has the best moisture retention & release on the market today. Completely reusable, the varied shapes of the rocks promote porosity, allowing more oxygen to reach the roots.

Higromite originates from an area that contains the largest and highest quality of the identified and viable pozzolan deposits known to exist in North America. The extent of the mineral deposits was established by a geological study commissioned in May of 1974. The study was performed by Dr. Richard E. Goodman; Dr. B. Slemmons and Mr. Joseph F. Leising, three of the most respected and accredited men in their field.
Higromite is mined and kiln fired at 1100 Degrees Fahrenheit. This calcination process sterilizes the material, promotes porosity, and makes its ruby red appearance. The material then runs through a specialized screening system which provides our customized size range.

Higromite contains a significant portion of soluble silica. Silica is essential for healthy plants and roots. The crystalline mineral silica is an often forgotten element in agriculture. When plants contain enough silica, they are able to maximize energy resources from the sun. However, it can only be absorbed gradually by the plant via the microbial processes in the soil. Thus, it is important to "feed" the soil a rich organic diet. Your plants will receive this slow release of silica from Higromite resulting in healthier, more robust plants. Plant available silica has also been shown in studies to stimulate SYSTEMIC ACQUIRED RESISTANCE (SAR) in plants which increases their resistance to disease.

For maximum vitality, it's important to supply plants with ALL the nutrients that are essential for growth. Not merely the organic elements and major elements Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Calcium (N-P-K and Ca), but all the elements, especially the trace elements.

Trace elements play a key role in the function of many enzymes and hormones. One consequence of this is that a very tiny amount trace element has an exceedingly great effect on the healthy function of plants.

Higromite is the only growing medium on the market that contains a natural balance of organic, major, and trace elements.

Higromite can be used as a supplement to expanded clay, rockwool, coco, and other mediums depending on the application.

When HigroMite is used as a supplement with Coco, it helps to reduce the common problem of compaction and increases moisture retention.

Due to its high CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity), adding HigroMite to your soil can greatly improve the soil's ability to hold onto the nutrients.

HigroMite can also be applied to "lasagna gardening" techniques. When lining the bottom of a pot with Higromite, the roots (tips) get the extra moisture they need in the later stages of growth. Expanded clays do not retain as much moisture as Higromite making it far superior.

HigroMite can be applied as a top dressing for outdoor applications. The silica and micronutrients are slowly released from the top into the root zone during each watering cycle. It also adds a nice decorative appeal that is pleasing to the eye.

HigroMite is highly porous and is capable of absorbing up to 100% of its own weight in water. The internal porosity allows the granules to absorb moisture and to slowly release it back to the plant as required. Each time you water or fertilize, Higromite re-absorbs and stores moisture to restart the slow release cycle.

When HigroMite is applied as directed for indoor pots, more water can be applied without the risk of watering to excess. In fact, it is impossible to over-water Higromite as any and all surplus water immediately drains from the pot.

The wicking action of HigroMite ensures that the whole root system can take advantage of the water and nutrients you give it. You can even perform your own test to watch water being drawn 8 inches from the bottom of a vessel to the top in a very short time to prove the lateral and vertical movement of the moisture.

HigroMite does not break down like other media on the market today, and can accompany your plant from seedling to specimen. Higromite can be used over and over after a thorough cleansing and its porosity will not clog like expanded clays after re-use

HigroMite's composition is predominantly silicon dioxide, which allows the rock to slowly release silica to the plant, which is particularly important to cell growth. The remaining elements release other micronutrients beneficial to the plant's overall uptake of nutrients to stimulate root growth and formation of blooms.

Because the granules of HigroMite are multi-faceted, its use allows air penetration in the pot. This is particularly important to plant health, as it further discourages root rot.

HigroMite also eliminates the common problem of expanded clay floating, which can lead to an unstable environment as seen in most ebb & flo hydroponic watering systems.

Available in a 21.45 liter bag, which is about 20 dry U.S. quarts in volume.

Schundler
Horticultural Perlite
Perlite is a unique volcanic mineral which expands from four to twenty times its original volume when it is quickly heated to a temperature of approximately 1600-1700 degrees F. This expansion is due to the presence of two to six percent combined water in the crude perlite rock which causes the perlite to pop in a manner similar to that of popcorn.

When expanded, each granular, snow-white particle of perlite is sterile with a neutral pH and contains many tiny, closed cells or bubbles. The surface of each particle is covered with tiny cavities which provide an extremely large surface area. These surfaces hold moisture and nutrients and make them available to plant roots.
Schundler Coarse Horticultural Perlite
In addition, because of the physical shape of each particle, air passages are formed which provide optimum aeration and drainage. Because perlite is sterile, it is free of disease, seeds, and insects.

Perlite has been used for many years throughout the world for soil conditioning and as a component of growing mixes with materials such as peat moss or bark. Extensive studies have shown that the unique capillary action of perlite makes it a superior growing media for hydroponic cultures.

Among the many uses of perlite today are propagation and seed cultivation, plug production and transplants, interiorscape and planter growing, composting, hydroponic cultures, turf and lawns, and around shrubs, trees, and landscaping.

Schundler Horticultural Perlite is available in 4 Dry Quart (1 Dry Gallon), 16 Dry Quart (4 Dry Gallons), and 48 Dry Quart (12 Dry Gallons, 1.5 Bushel) sizes. For more information about the origins of perlite and its current uses, please visit The Perlite Institute at

Schundler Coarse Horticultural Vermiculite
Schundler
Horticultural Vermiculite
Vermiculite is a member of the phyllosilicate group of minerals, resembling mica in appearance. It is found in various parts of the world, but currently the major mines are located in South Africa, China, Brazil, Zimbabwe, and the United States. The largest mine today is located in the Palabora region of North-Eastern Transvaal in South Africa. It's vermiculite is basically a hydrated phlogopite mica which has the remarkable ability to expand to many times its original volume when heated---a property known as exfoliation.
Horticultural Vermiculite has the excellent property of improving soil aeration while retaining the moisture and nutrients necessary to feed roots, cuttings, and seeds for faster growth. Like perlite, horticultural vermiculite is permanent, clean, odorless, nontoxic and sterile. It will not deteriorate, turn moldy or rot. The pH of vermiculite is essentially neutral (7.0-9.5) but owing to the presence of associated carbonate compounds, the reaction is normally alkaline. It also will vary (become more alkaline) with changes in processing techniques and time, and with the presence of moisture. The pH, color and chemical composition of vermiculite also will vary from mine to mine.

Vermiculite possesses cation exchange properties, thus it can hold and make available to the growing plant ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. When mixed with peat, composted bark, organic compost, or natural soils, vermiculite like perlite helps promote faster root growth, and gives quick anchorage to young roots. These mixes help retain air, plant food, and moisture, and releases them as needed by the plant. Because vermiculite is very light and easy to handle, it easily mixes with soil, peat, composted pine bark and other composted organic materials, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. And when used as a carrier or bulking agent, it ensures more even distribution.

Schundler Horticultural Vermiculite is available in 4 Dry Quart (1 Dry Gallon), 16 Dry Quart (4 Dry Gallons), and 48 Dry Quart (12 Dry Gallons, 1.5 Bushel) sizes. For more information about the origins of vermiculite and its current uses, please visit

PVP Perl-Lome
Horticultural Perlite
Perl-Lome Horticultural Perlite is a semi-coarse soil additive that improves soil structure, eliminates soil crusting and compaction and improves drainage and aeration. Among the unique properties of Horticultural Perlite is its ability to work for many years in the soil. It does this because it is inorganic and does not deteriorate. In addition, perlite is chemically inert and has an essentially neutral pH.

Because it is sterile, perlite is free of disease, weed seeds and insects. Its light weight makes perlite easy to handle and is clean and odorless too.
Perl-Lome Horticultural Perlite
As a soil additive mix equal parts perlite and soil. Moisten and mix thoroughly. Firm the mix well around the roots but do not pack too tightly. Water thoroughly.

For starting seeds or cuttings, mix equal parts of perlite and soil. Moisten thoroughly and add your seeds or cuttings. Pack gently. Approximately four weeks later transplant to growing container. Eight (8) dry quart (8.8L) bag.
