The Bluelab® Portable pH Meter is super easy to calibrate simply by using the convenient push buttons on the face of the meter along with fresh Bluelab calibration solutions.
pH test strips are an old fashioned method of measuring pH and are inaccurate and inefficient.
In a swimming pool, the chemicals used can bleach the test strips and provide a less than perfect reading as a result!
In hydroponics, a pH reading is generally required after every addition of nutrient and once or twice a day. As the plants take up the nutrient, the pH level normally rises and thus needs adjusting. As the water evaporates the pH value of the nutrient solution will drop. These situations are controlled more effectively if you take regular pH readings of your nutrient solution. Using a Bluelab® Portable pH Meter is faster, easier, far less cumbersome and more cost effective than pH test strips!
As the Bluelab® Portable pH Meter is lightweight and portable and does not need a power supply to operate, it can be used anywhere and anytime.
To take a pH reading of your solution, simply place the pH probe tip into the solution, push any button to turn the unit on and after a few minutes a stablised reading will be displayed on the large 13mm (1/2 inch) tall digital display.
pH measuring instruments need to be calibrated to ensure the reading remains accurate. The Bluelab® Portable pH Meter is so easy to calibrate by using the push buttons on the meter and fresh pH 7.0 and pH 4.0 calibration solutions. Bluelab® has made it even easier for you by placing the calibration instructions directly on the back label of the meter! Handy!
It is powered by two (2) AAA alkaline batteries and has a low battery indicator to let you know when they will require replacing. The meter also turns itself off after a period of inactivity to save battery power.
The included premium quality pH probe connects to the Bluelab® Portable pH Meter by a BNC (bayonet Neill-Concelman) connector so the probe is easily removed for storage or when replacing.
The Bluelab® Portable pH Meter can accurately measure pH between the full range of 1 to 14 pH. Because the Bluelab® Portable pH Meter has such a large range, it is crucial that calibration be made between two points; pH 7.0 and pH 4.0.
Many cheap meters have a similar range but state that only one point calibration is required....be very skeptical as to the accuracy of these products!
Included with your Bluelab® Portable pH Meter is a premium commercial quality pH probe with a 2 meter (6 1/2 feet) cable length; pH 7.0 20ml single use calibration solution sachet; pH 4.0 20ml single use calibration solution sachet; two (2) AAA alkaline batteries; guarantee card (or you can register your guarantee on-line); instruction manual; and a maintenance record card.

The probe surface is where the instrument takes the reading of the solution. That information is then sent back to the electronic brain of the instrument. |

A calculation is then done by the micro computer and your reading is then displayed, accurately, one hopes. However, if the information sent back from the probe is inaccurate due to probe surface contamination then the reading will be inaccurate. Garbage in, garbage out.
Cleaning the probes is a very easy task and prolongs the life of the probes.

Bluelab® Calibration Solutions are manufactured specific to the calibration process and referenced to high class laboratory standards. |

Bluelab® pH Calibration Solutions should be stored in a cool place out of direct sun and heat. Please keep out of reach of children. They should be stored with the lids securely tightened. Not replacing the lid after use will result in evaporation which causes the salt content in the solution to rise decreasing the validity of the solution.
Contamination between solutions can easily occur, which will affect the validity of the calibration. Bluelab® recommends that the solutions are de-cantered into a smaller vessel and the contents discarded when the calibration process has been completed.
Bluelab pH Calibration Solutions are available in 4.0 and 7.0 calibration points in 250 milliliter (8.45 U.S. fluid ounce) and 500 milliliter (16.9 U.S. fluid ounce) bottles. Meter and decanter shown not included. |
