Neptune's Harvest Organic Crab Shell is an excellent granular source of organic Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, with generous proportions of Calcium (23%) and Magnesium (1.33%). Not only does Neptune's Harvest Crab Shell promote the healthy growth of plants, it also helps prevent nematode and fungus problems due to the fact that Crab Shell is extremely high in Chitin (prounounced Kite-en), which promotes the growth of Chitin eating bacteria in the soil.

The exoskeletons of fungus and nematode eggs are high in Chitin. When added to the soil, Crab Shell helps to create a hostile environment for fungus and nematodes by feeding the biological life that eats chitin and chitin based organisms.
Due to the extremely high levels of Calcium, Neptune's Harvest Crab Shell is an excellent way to prevent blossom-end rot in tomatoes and peppers and is widely praised by organic tomato growers as an essential soil amendment. The nutrients in Neptune's Harvest Crab Shell release slowly over an entire season of growth and will continue to add to the organic value of soil for several years.
For the garden, use 3 pounds per 100 square feet, or 1 to 2 pounds per 100 feet of row. For seedbeds, us 1/2 to 1 pound per 100 square feet. For bedding plants, 1 ounce per 10X20 inch tray. For orchards, use 1/2 pound per inch of tree diameter incorporated at the drip line of the tree. For turf, use 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet. To enrich potting mixes, incorporate 2% Crab Shell to the volume of mix.
