ESTABLISHED LAWNS: Apply Plant-tone at the rate of 20 lbs. per 1,000 square feet three times a year - Spring, Summer, Fall. This will provide for safe, steady feeding during the growing season and help maintain a good green lawn.
NEW LAWNS: Apply Plant-tone at the rate of 40 lbs. per 1,000 square feet of area and work into the top three or four inches of soil. Seed may then be sown immediately. When a lawn is six months old, it should be treated as an established lawn.
FLOWERS: Mix Plant-tone into the top four or five inches of soil at the rate of 4 lbs. per 100 square feet when preparing the flower bed. An additional feeding should be made after the plants are well established.
BULBS: Place heaping teaspoon of Plant-tone beneath bulb and mix thoroughly with soil. Feed established beds 4 pounds per 100 square feet.
POTTING SOIL: Mix thoroughly 1 part Plant-tone to 25 parts soil. Feed established potted plants 1 teaspoonful of Plant-tone for each 3 inches of pot diameter. Repeat monthly.
ROSES: When planting, mix one cupful with soil in bottom of hole and one cupful with soil used to refill hole. For established plants, apply one cupful evenly on soil around plant and work lightly into top inch of soil. Repeat monthly during summer months.
SHRUBS: When planting, mix one cupful with soil in bottom of hole and one cupful with soil used to refill hole. Feed established shrubs with one cupful for each foot of branch spread.
VEGETABLES: When preparing garden, apply 40 pounds of Plant-tone per 1,000 square feet and work into the top 4 to 5 inches of soil. After plants are established (2-3 weeks) sidedress them at the rate of 12 pounds per 100 lineal feet. |

Rock Phosphate 0-4-0
Rock Phosphate is a natural rock mined from phosphorus-rich deposits. The rock is washed free from clay impurities and heated to remove moisture. It is then mechanically ground to a fine powder. Espoma® Rock Phosphate is the finest, highest grade, all natural rock phosphate available. It is far superior in total phosphate content to all other natural forms of rock phosphate including black and colloidal rock phosphate. |
Organic source of phosphorus & micronutrients. Rock phosphate contains 32% total phosphate (P2O5). Phosphorus is an essential nutrient required by plants that is primarily responsible for healthy root development and fruit and flower production. In addition, rock phosphate is rich in minor elements such as boron, zinc, nickel and iodine which plants need in small amounts for optimum growth.
Long term, slow-release feeding, Rock Phosphate becomes naturally available as the plant needs it. Plant roots give off carbon dioxide and certain organic acids which react with the rock phosphate in the soil, making it available for plant use. Because Espoma® Rock Phosphate is ground to a fine powder, a sufficient part of it is immediately available to the plant because the particles are so tiny that the organic acids and carbon dioxide produced by the plant roots and bacteria in the soil can break them down quickly.
For Light Applications: 2 lbs. per 100 square feet
Medium Applications: 5 lbs. per 100 square feet
Heavy Applications: 10 lbs. per 100 square feet
Broadcast or spread Espoma Rock Phosphate evenly over the entire area. It is recommended that the rock phosphate be incorporated into the soil before seeding or planting. For application during the growing season use the light rates shown above. |

GreenSand 0-0-0.1
Greensand, also known as Glauconite, is a mineral mined from natural deposits of glauconite located in the Southern part of New Jersey. These deposits are of marine origin and are composed primarily of iron-potassium silicate, which gives it its bluish green color. Greensand is an excellent soil conditioner due to its unique combination of physical and chemical properties which give the gardener the benefits attributed to both sand and clay materials. |
ORGANIC SOURCE OF POTASSIUM
& OTHER TRACE MINERALS
Espoma® Greensand contains 6% total potash, an essential nutrient required by plants that contributes to overall hardiness and good health. This potash solubilizes very slowly and therefore is available to plants at relatively small amounts at any one time. Greensand also contains up to 1.2% of phosphate, another essential nutrient, as well as most of the trace minerals normally associated with deposits of marine origin.
LOOSENS CLAY SOILS
The sand-like particle size and rounded shape of greensand prevent the interlocking of soil particles and retard soil compaction. Thus, greensand can be used to loosen high clay soils resulting in a more friable soil condition, better drainage and aeration - all of which are necessary for optimum plant growth.
BINDS SANDY SOILS
The rounded grains of greensand are actually comprised of finely divided clay particles. The cation exchange capacity for these particles is relatively high, which means that they have a greater capacity to hold and exchange nutrients. These particles also give greensand a high water-holding capacity. This enables greensand to bind sandy soils and thereby improve plant growth.
Light Applications: 5 to 10 lbs. per 100 square feet.
Medium Applications: 15 to 30 lbs. per 100 square feet.
Heavy Applications: 40 to 80 lbs. per 100 square feet
Broadcast or spread Espoma Greensand evenly over the entire area. It is recommended that the greensand be incorporated into the soil before seeding or planting. For application during the growing season use the light rates shown above. |

Garden Sulfur
Espoma Garden Sulfur is the finest, most effective sulfur product available. It is an all natural, high purity mineral that can be used both as a plant food to provide the nutrient sulfur and as a soil amendment to correct the problem of alkaline soil.
Espoma Garden Sulfur turns hydrangeas from pink to blue, lowers pH of soil to its optimum range, promotes growth and dark greening of plants, won't burn your plants because of its low salt index and is safe to use around children and pets (not hazardous or toxic). |
When used as part of a regular fertilizer program, it can provide a season-long source of sulfur. It is always recommended that you do a soil analysis to ensure the proper rate of application. Sprinkle 3 tbsp. Per 100 sq. ft. (1 tsp per plant) around the root zone. If possible, mix it in with your fertilizer and work it into the soil.
Soil Acidifier Recommendation
In the absence of a soil test, follow the rates below. Results can take up to several weeks depending on rate, soil temperature and timing of application. Reduce the rates by one-third for sandy soils and increase by one-half for clay soils. In general, the optimum range for blue hydrangeas is 5.5 - 6.0, and for blueberries it's 4.5 - 5.0. |
